Google Is Moving Local Services Ads Into Google Ads. Here’s What Contractors Need to Know

Google is moving Local Services Ads out of its standalone dashboard and into the main Google Ads platform. According to the official announcement from Google, the transition will begin with home services advertisers in August 2026 and continue in phases through 2027. For service-area businesses without physical storefronts and accounts with custom bidding or booking configurations, the migration is expected to begin later in 2026.

For HVAC and home services contractors, the biggest takeaway is simple: Local Services Ads aren’t going away. The pay-per-lead model, ad placements and focus on high-intent local customers will remain. What’s changing is how campaigns are managed.

Less Administrative Work, More Campaign Management

From my perspective as Mediagistic’s GLSA Specialist, this should make managing Local Services Ads much more efficient.

Today, even a basic update can require changes in multiple platforms, document requests and follow-ups with Google support. Under the new system, many business details will sync directly from a contractor’s Google Business Profile into Google Ads.

That should mean:

  • Fewer duplicate updates across Google platforms
  • Faster campaign setup using pre-populated business information
  • More control over routine account changes
  • Less time waiting for Google to process updates

According to Search Engine Land, existing Local Services Ads campaigns will be migrated into Google Ads rather than rebuilt from scratch. That means budgets, service areas and other core settings should carry over automatically.

Your Google Business Profile Will Matter Even More

The closer connection between Local Services Ads and Google Business Profile raises the stakes for keeping business information accurate.

Business hours, address, name and other routine details will sync more directly between platforms. More significant changes, such as a new address, business name or primary category, may still trigger a review and temporarily interrupt campaign activity.

That’s why contractors need someone watching the entire Google ecosystem, not just the ad budget. An incorrect category, outdated business hours or unverified profile change can affect both local visibility and paid lead generation.

A Few Details Contractors Should Prepare For

Google will handle most of the migration automatically, but contractors should still know what to expect before their account moves into Google Ads.

  • Watch for advance notices: Account administrators should receive emails 14 days and seven days before migration, along with alerts in the current dashboard.
  • Download historical reports: Previous performance reports won’t remain available in the old Local Services Ads dashboard after migration.
  • Expect budget and bidding changes: Weekly budgets will convert to daily budgets, and manual cost-per-lead bidding will no longer be supported.
  • Allow time for performance to stabilize: Google recommends allowing up to two weeks for the migration to finish and campaign performance to return to normal.

Contractors advertising multiple service categories may also need separate campaigns if they want different bidding targets for HVAC, plumbing or other business lines.

What Mediagistic Clients Can Expect

There may be some growing pains as accounts move into the new platform and performance stabilizes. Search Engine Roundtable reports that the migration is designed to happen automatically, but contractors and agencies should still watch campaign settings and performance closely during the transition.

For Mediagistic clients, our team will monitor each account before, during and after migration. We’ll confirm that important settings transfer correctly, watch for unexpected changes in lead volume and address issues as they come up.

The new platform should reduce the amount of time spent chasing documents, duplicating business information and waiting for routine updates. That gives our specialists more time to focus on:

  • Managing budgets and bidding strategies
  • Reviewing lead quality and appealed leads
  • Identifying changes in performance
  • Helping contractors generate more qualified opportunities

The dashboard is changing. Our responsibility to protect campaign performance isn’t.
